Unplug the unit or turn off the circuit breaker.

Step 2: Locate the immersion heating element. It is usually found near the bottom of the water heater tank.

Step 3: Remove the metal cover that is securing the element. Depending on the model, this could be a metal strap, screw, or bolt.
