Unplug the GE refrigerator from the wall outlet or if it is connected to a power source through an appliance surge protector, unplug the appliance surge protector from the wall outlet.

Step 2: Locate the compressor inverter control board. Generally, these boards are located in the back or on the side of the refrigerator behind a panel.

Step 3: Remove the panel with a screwdriver. Once you have accessed the control board, disconnect the electrical wiring. The wiring may be different depending on your model of refrigerator so make sure to note which connection goes where.

Step 4: Carefully remove the faulty control board and replace it with the new one. When reattaching the wiring, make sure all connections are secure and there are no loose wires.

Step 5: Reattach the panel and secure it with the screwdriver.

Step 6: Plug the appliance surge protector back into the wall outlet- or plug the refrigerator directly back into the wall outlet- and turn the power back on.
